What We Offer

This is an on-call position, which means it is a part-time, hourly role. This position will work no more than 39 hours per week.

The pay range for this position $30.60 - $39.01/hour, based on experience and education and is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denver’s 457b retirement plan. This position is not eligible for other additional benefits. On‐call positions may have routine or variable work schedules.

Location

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. In this position you can expect to work on-site and at off-site meetings, with some potential evenings and weekends. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.

In this position you can expect to work on site at the Wellington E. Webb Building, 201 W. Colfax Ave., Denver, CO 80202.

The

HRCP—Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Division

is a dynamic, on-the-move team. The team’s mission: We are passionate about providing effective communication options to ensure Deaf, DeafBlind, and hard of hearing people have equitable access to Denver government programs, services, and events by:
  • Providing sign language interpreting, Communication Access Real-time Translation (CART) services and other services upon request and at no cost
  • Educating and consulting with City and County of Denver employees regarding their responsibility under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act to provide effective communication access to the Deaf, DeafBlind, and hard of hearing public
  • Engaging members of the Deaf, DeafBlind, and hard of hearing communities in Denver City/County government affairs
  • Providing resources and referrals

The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Division is hiring for an On-Call Program Support and Sign Language Interpreter teammate to provide program support and interpret services.

Specifically, as the On-Call Program Support and Sign Language Interpreter, you will:

  • Scheduling: Respond in a timely manner to requests for a service provider. Obtain essential details for each request and accurately enter information into scheduling software. Create and send queries to service providers and actively work on each request until the request is brought to completion.
  • Service provider and community support: Obtain assignment-related materials for each service provider request and deliver them in a timely manner to the service provider. Maintain relevant, assignment-related materials to support ongoing service provider requests. Once a request is filled, send confirmation emails in a timely manner to both the service provider and Denver government requestor. Support external outreach to the Deaf and hard of hearing communities and internal outreach to Denver government employees.
  • Apply best practices for staffing service providers for both legal and nonlegal assignments including those requiring specialty interpreting skills and/or knowledge, Deaf/Hearing interpreter teams, multiple interpreters, and/or a combination of CART and interpretation services. Have familiarity with the application of relevant sign language interpreter Code(s) of Professional Conduct, and all pertinent laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Provide sign language interpreting services, as needed and as appropriate, for Deaf and hard of hearing public accessing Denver government programs, services, and events, and for Deaf and hard of hearing Denver government employees. Settings for interpretation services include but are not limited to one-on-one meetings, small group, large group, platform, virtual, and onsite settings. This may require driving and could include after-hours or weekend assignments.
  • Assist with all aspects of service provider paperwork and reviewing service provider invoices for accuracy prior to submission for payment. Respond to inquiries from Denver government employees and the public regarding interpreter and CART accommodations. Provide resources and referrals as needed.

  • Strong communication skills in English and American Sign Language
  • Sign language interpreting and/or document translation into American Sign Language skills or interest, a plus
  • Ability to work independently, yet collaborate as part of a small team

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree.
  • Experience Requirement: One (1) year of experience.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
  • License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
    Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
